Challenge?

adversary, antagonist, challenger, contestant, corival, emulator, opponent, opposition, contender, concours.

Here are just a few examples of words used to describe what we all have a fear of.

The Competition.

We fear our competition for we expect to be defeated. This is where we all succumb to our weakness and take the easy way out. We give up.

But our Competition is not someone we should retreat form. On the other hand, our Competition is someone we should focus on, take example from, learn form, depend on, study, memorise, and most importantly, respect.

The main reason why out Competition is given that title is because we feel intimidated. Fine.

"There is someone out there better then I am",we think, then we of course go into "bitch" mode and start bad-mouthing our Competition.

Remember this; Learn from your Competition, take it and add on to it. Eventually, your only competition would be Yourself.

And if you consider your Competition your enemy, then take some advice from Aristophanes

"the wise learn many things from their enemies"

So love, learn, admire and respect your competition. This is how you grow.

Bring. It. On.
please

It's the final countdown

Hey you!!!! Have you got your tickets to the show yet? You only have one more day left.

I wish you were there last night to watch me in Timbre @ the Substation. It was mind blasting and the Goodfellas... WHOA! Those guys can groove, move, rock it and hip hop it! They did it all. I am sure you would have been there if you could, but I missed your presence.

Anyway, to be honest, I felt like I have crossed the finish line. Last night was so awesome, I am just all excited for tomorrows show. The thing I am looking forward most to (which is giving me the butterflies) is going back stage to meet the artists! Tomorrow AND today (cuz' I'm greedy like that)!

Have you seen the line up?

- Bleu Rascals
- Keb' Mo'
- Buddy Guy
- The Specials
- Andre Harihandoyo & Sonic People
- Hugo
- Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue
- Earth Wind and Fire

It's raining right this second, but don't you worry. It's not gonna be like Bruno Mars's eyes.

I'm going to be Adele and set fire to the rain!!!

Song of the day : now that the love is gone :D

Time to Rock and Roots!!!

3 days and counting and my nerves have decided to take a back seat as excitement just decided to pop by and stay a couple of nights.

ROCK AND ROOTS THIS WEEKEND!!!!

So after the 1 hour flight to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur, after a long day at the F1 Mercedes Benz STYLO party after a small gig at the Shangri-la, you can imagine how annoyed at myself I was when I had to wake up at 5am to make it in time for my 7:40am flight. Seriously, Dasha!!!!!

Once arriving at Singapore and being greeted by my friend Rachel, I made a pit stop at her place before heading into town to Orchard Road for the first time in my conscious life. Had an amazing evening with an amazing friend who showed me around. Even managed to squeeze in a song in a nearby bar just for the hell of it. It was the shoes.

Basically I have just been walking around with my girls and trying to spot live music venues and try to meet up with friends here, though it's hard during the week. Most musicians hibernate from the live music scene till the weekend and even then I am booked up. But you know what... All for an amazing reason.

ROCK AND ROOTS THIS WEEKEND!!!

The fliers are everywhere and the hype is readily felt in the atoms in the air (which even the rain can not wash away). Tonight I meet the band. It's all really happening!!!

3 days left people!!!!!

Wish me luck, friends!

Insight

So, if you are a musician (especially a young one), then you would know the in's and out's of the problems a musician would encounter.

What we wish our only concern was
  1. Music
What we never thought would be something to think about, but is
  1. Band politics
  2. Discipline
  3. Client payments
  4. People thinking that we don't do any work. (!#@$@#$@#!!!!!)
  5. Event cancellation (What do I do now?!?!?!? )
  6. Double booking
  7. Song choice ("I will survive" at a wedding? I don't think so)
  8. Song arrangements
  9. Dress code (oops, too revealing for this wedding)
  10. Forgetting equipment (yup, I have even forgotten my microphone!)
  11. Sound check
  12. Critics (everyone is a critic did you not know?!)
  13. Visa application (you're a... what? Musician????)
  14. Practice schedules
  15. Having NO gigs
and the list goes on.

I can honestly say that a musicians life is not easy. Sure, we may be our own boss, wake up when our eyes open (on most days) and choose our own holidays. However, we also don't have the luxuries of security, stability and/or sanity!!!

This does not apply to all musicians. Some lucky bunch caught a big break and got it all sorted out. Companies were opened, stable cheques were given out and received, managers were hired, agents were appointed and MUSIC became their only concern once again.

Oh... that day will come.

Hey!

Just a small change in plans.

The No Black Tie tribute to Motown has been moved to the 20th and 21st of January, featuring ROZZ, Elvira Arul, and Richard Jackson and is indeed not a show to be missed. It's Motown!!!!

I so wish I could be part of this show, but I guess you can't win them all. Maybe next time.

Hope to make it in time to catch these amazing musician and performers!
