The No Black Tie tribute to Motown has been moved to the 20th and 21st of January, featuring ROZZ, Elvira Arul, and Richard Jackson and is indeed not a show to be missed. It's Motown!!!!

I so wish I could be part of this show, but I guess you can't win them all. Maybe next time.

Hope to make it in time to catch these amazing musician and performers!

I do not remember all the people I have met. There, I've said it, and it's the truth. I do sometimes meet people by the dozens. Some names stick, some names slip and slide. Some don't even seem to appear sometimes!

But now and again, someone will make that impression, and for the life of me, I have no idea why they stick in my memory! But they just do.

It has been a year since I sang in G Hotel in Penang. An experience I took a lot from and learnt even more through. I made lots of friends locally an internationally within those 2 months I was the, and it was a lot of fun!

There was this one night. It was a quiet night with not many people, typical for a weekday. I was having a good time on stage; it's always less stressful singing to a small crowd compared to a big one, when a family walked into the bar. They sat down to the side and listened. They ordered drinks and listened to the band till the end of the set, which is when they got up and left G Spot. I thought nothing of it.

I went outside of the bar, making my way to the powder room when I saw them lingering in the smoking area. I walked in to say hello and thank them for having stayed for the show. It was lovely (as it always is) to hear that they did have a great time and introduced themselves. They could not stay the rest of the night as it was already pretty late and they were tired so they left. However, their words of praise remained and I was left with a high that only comes with making others happy.

It was 10 months later when I received and e mail from a lovely woman called Carolyn Jubb. The email started with;-

"......we saw you perform at the G Spot in january 2011. We loved your music!! We had a chat to you at one of your breaks outside, although you probably wouldn't remember us as I'm sure lots of people do!!"

In an instant, I knew who she was. Everything about that night from what I was wearing to the songs I was singing came flashing back to memory and I knew exactly who she was and who her family was. They comprised of 2 musical sons and (I now know) a humorous husband.

She e mailed me about her next trip to Malaysia with her family and how she'd like to come watch me sing somewhere and/or meet to pick up my demo.

And you know what, we made it happen!

Just before Christmas, I performed in China House. She and her family did not make it for the show, but I was in Penang and able to meet for coffee and a chat. It did not take me long at all to feel so comfortable with this family and we chatted near to an hour before we had to rush off. Even though it was not a very long conversation, even though this was probably the first time we were talking properly, these lovely people made me feel just a little more bigger then my body just when I needed a little enthusiasm and encouragement.

They left, indeed, more friends then fans. I'm a lucky girl.

People say "be yourself",

but somehow, a few minutes later, they say "you should be more.....(fill it in)".

Someday I will be able to be myself, which is when I'll be able to sing and say exactly what I want to say, without the thought of what others may think or say.

When that day comes, my sounds would be found.

I can hear the bells

As a musician, I have done multiple weddings, in multiple hotels, for multiple couples and it never seems to end. For one thing, I started doing this when I was 17 years old and have nearly lost the passion for doing wedding show. Every time I finish a wedding gig, i tell myself "this is the last", but it never is.

After doing this for 7 years and counting, I realize that I have forgotten the meaning of a wedding. To me, and to most musicians, we go in, we set up, we do sound check, we prepare the same set list we prepare all the time with the same love songs which turns out to be happy-pink-cheeked-couple favorites. It's never hard. Always monotonous. We all sigh. Sigh with me...

But a few weeks ago, at yet another wedding, singing songs the band already know like the back of their hands, I decided to pay attention.

I looked around. The room was decorated with pictures of the bride and groom, the tables we arranged to perfection, bottles of red win at the ready. Everywhere I looked, people were dressed to the 9, and as usual I separated the people who were actually happy for the couple, the ones there for the free drinks, the ones there for the free food, the ones waiting to pick someone up, the flustered bride and the helpless groom, the few foreigners thrown onto the guest list to make it look sophisticated and the help.

I sang my first set. Maybe 6 people listened. I finished and a speech was made and we waited in a waiting room. As fancy as we looked on stage, we were still "working" and were treated as much. That's fine. Our break was supposed to be for an hour, so I decided to walk about the place.

I was fretting, annoyed at still doing weddings, still singing covers, still getting paid scraps and still not getting noticed. Why am I still at the same place I was at 5 years ago? How have I grown? I can't see it.

Then like a lighting bolt (which is how fast my mind jumps from topics) I looked at the bride and groom. This is what it was about.

Love.

I looked at them, and even though they were talking to their friends and families, their hands were clasped together, fingers intertwined. I realized, even though my singing was as relevant as the fork used by the person seated at table 3, the wedding would not be completed without a singer, singing with a band, belting out tunes as old as time permits, that would make this wedding, just this one, perfect.

Here I was, invited to be part of someone's image of a perfect wedding, to kick off something as new as a dress, as scary as a marriage and as fresh as a start.

The 2nd and final set was amazing.

I have known this for a while but today I have come to terms with the possibility that not many people read blogs anymore, but instead of coming up with a web site, I have decided to stick to this for as long as I can with as many links to other web sites as possible. Though probably not the cleverest idea, going old school is always fun.

Just finished my slot in Langkawi Live and oh it was a blast! I have been watching the amazing talents of so many musicians. Making it is impossible not to be inspired myself. Album? Always on my mind and i feel the need to give them out to anyone who would like to hear more of me. Takers, anyone? Just being here inspires me, writing writing... Learning learning....

Sadly, I have to leave Langkawi and head back to real life, whatever that is. Being a Penang girl, I know what it's like to leave the island life for the city life; never easy. Oh well, retirement in mind! Who knows.

Everyone here has been amazing to me! Thank you Patrick for inviting me, Zarul for making it possible, Anthony for your hospitality and of course Michael for the music. Frangipani resort, damn you sure are beautiful and I look forward to visiting you again! Thank you also to all my friends who came to Langkawi for the support, and for those who couldn't make it for this one, don't forget the shows coming up where you can make up for it and I can stop making you feel guilty! ;)

As always I begin my blog with something of the same flavor, "it has been a while....". I really should be more disciplined with my blog... Hope you don't lose interest!

Anyway, as usual, lots has happened since I last wrote. I have completed most of the concerts and shows from my last post. The event with The Alleycats is by far the most legendary show I have had the honor of performing. I have also done a little traveling (which actually didn't inspire me much) which was a much welcomed holiday. I have also been reunited with some musicians who have been busy getting ready for their wedding (congratulations Terence Liew!) and the idea of an album is back on track and on fire!

Well, lots more shows coming up and I will post them up soon! And as always, the music sounds better with you...

The Big One

It has been a rolling stone this month and I have definitely gathered no moss! After Mezze and the amazing show in No Black Tie followed by the dive into Alexis, it is finally time for the big one.

The Sampaikan Salam concert in Istana Budaya with the Alleycats is a dream come true and I can not wait to get on that stage! Demo!

It has been a good long holiday and now it's back to business.

The demo is done (and re done and re done)!!! For years I have been telling myself that I need to get this demo rolling but always using the same excuse as before; I need original songs.

Nope, still don't have any originals recorded.

BUT! I needed to get the demo done for gigs overseas (fingers crossed). And so, with only 1 weeks given for planning, I chose the songs, got the musicians and studio booked and finally came back to Penang for recording.

A big big thank u to the Frequency Band (Ed, Boy and Hamdan) and also to the kindness of fellow musicians who dropped by to lend a helping hand with more tracks (Sam Dhoss, Christopher Estrop, Adil Johan and Jonathan Scully) which just blasted the demo to new heights. It was fun to do, I must admit. Forget the time and cost and the amount of takes we did, I was/am happy with it.

Of course I had to have moral support!! Mum, Vig, Omesh, Matthew and Felix as well as the production crew, Mr Fong and Gary, were there to help me select the best takes and clap along (and get bored out of their minds). It meant a lot to me to have them there.

Right so obviously I have been missing from my page, and I KNOW I am constantly promising to be more constant with my blog, but we know me. =)

ANYWAY to keep everyone updated, I have just returned from London and I am back and ready to write this freaking album! Being away has really thought me a lot more then I have expected and it's always fun to learn, isn't it? Well, learning the hard way is so much better, innit (note the London accent!) and I know I have been missing, but I am back and ready for more.

New pages, new chapters, new beginnings and I am ready to write a Nicholas Sparks book. HAHA ok lame jokes aside, motivation back on, full speed ahead. Lots to learn!!!

And so I am back in Malaysia!!! So good to be back! =)

The trip to Korea was indeed amazing and it took our breaths away. A little bit of a culture shock, since this was our very first trip performing out of Malaysia, but it was a lesson learnt and I think we handled it well enough.

Korea is beautiful. A big thank you to *Paul Augustine*, ~Oceans of Fire~, ^Aunty Ching^, !Michael!, )Simon(, Jerome dan lain-lain.

Anyway, back to the here and now.

With a few shows over and a few coming up, one can only say that I am a little busy. I know I have been asked time and time again when is my next public show in KL going to be, and I am keeping my fingers crossed for January! But before i go public again, I want to have written down at least 3 hand written songs to be performed live! I need this! I need to use what I have learnt and put it in pen and paper. Time to get to work and stop with all the stalling! And so, here I promise that by the end of this year, I would have ready 10 new and completely original songs!

So it has been blogged, so it shall be done!

Hello Korea!

YUP! Just one more day till our 4 month quest is put into motion and we (Ocean of Fire and myself) will be heading off to Korea to make our country proud!

Our very first international act is upon us and "excited" is an understatement! We want to do it all and want to have a blast and there is no doubt in my mind that we will!

This is what makes musicians great, loving what they do and having fun while doing it.

=) just gotta smile! Then get excited!

And so the writing process is processing. Slowly, but something is definitely on the way.

After purchasing my very own traveling guitar (I call Bob Bailey), I find myself writing something new everyday. Mind you, I am still only writing with 3 chords and maybe adding in a small twinge of a difference here and there, but it always comes to a new song. Hey, if Paramore can write "the only exception" with 3 - 4 chords, then why can't I?

So I have made plans to do a little traveling next year. New air, new experiences and who knows what else I could learn while there. People to meet and musicians with a whole different insight on music, surely an experience I am looking forward to.

I have been digging into my past lately. Not to say that I have much of an interesting past, but looking at how life was so much more easier then and my only worries were exams and (ashamed as I am, this is truth) the boys who I knew. I found a poem which a guy I liked dearly had written to me ages ago. Back then the poem had scared me. But now I find myself looking at it for inspiration. Keep in mind, this was 6 years ago. Does not seem that long ago, but I was 16 back then!!! And now, that seems like forever ago.

Much has changed.

But the emotions still remain.

We learn from our mistakes. So I say, we should make more. And with that, we write. I learn, I write.

And thus, music shall be born. Hopefully it's good. =)

yeap I am taking a couple of weeks off to get down to the song writing. Tis a shame that I do not play an instrument at the moment which is proving to be a real pain! But i am picking up more and more from the guitar everyday, but of course i have to get out of the comfort zone of just 4 chords. slowly slowly, what I have done to get the writing working is buying re chargeable batteries for my voice recorder! And I have also found some old original ideas which I think would be cool to work on.

ALSO found in my voice recorder was a recording of my original track "would you be true" which I wrote 2 years ago! Just gotta re write the lyrics and get it worked on and I am sure it is something I will be working on more. Does any of this make sense? Hmmm I type too much.

Anyway, so this is to just let you know that YES I am writing my own stuff and all I need to do is get the guts to put them on a live stage!

The music still pulses

I have drifted away from my blog slowly as time has passed thinking, why would anyone be reading this? Then a new friends, an unfamiliar face, came up to me one night during supper with a friendly smile and a camera asking if he could take a picture with me, and told me that he had just read my blog.

And that was all I needed to know that I was read. And that was all it took to get me back here. Thanks Steven. =)

It has been a surfing experience, I have been experiencing these past few months. I have fallen, picked myself up and tried again and again and sometimes, i have managed to stay up long enough to reach the shore. I have set so many goals for myself this year and slowly it seems to be coming together. The only thing that is stopping me is the occasional self questions and the frequent need to watch Avatar, the last air bender on my lap top. One step at a time, I guess. =)

The one thing that I have been slacking in is my writing. "WRITE!" I tell myself nearly every day. Everyday I have something new to write about. Everyday I fail to put them into words.

Experience.

This year is also proving to be filling me with experiences. Things have been happening which I have never dreamt of. Maybe my dreams are taking it a little bit too far for my reality, but why not put these dreams into words? Into song. I have been lucky enough to have woken up with music in my head! Twice this week I woke up groping for my recorder to record the song that was playing in my head from the dream I just had which thankfully, does not exist yet.

I love to sing!

I love my job!!

I am preparing my set list for the show in Bagan this Saturday so that should be a blast. Back with the original old school band, we will be blasting the night up with an night of black and white. The theme? Well, I made it up myself. =p

dont know why though.

Anyway, with songs like "rolling on the river" and "gimme the night", who knows what the turn out is going to be. As usual, you never know what you will get in Bagan! =)

Why I do what I do.

In most jobs, well practically all jobs, there is some form of politics. Bosses with subordinates, employers and employees. Clients and managers, there is always someone in the way.

I have been asked time and time again why i have a manager, and time and time again I tell people the same thing; “I just don’t know how to handle business as I just don’t know how to say ‘no’ when people ask for things which I, in fact, cannot accept or deliver.” It’s that simple. My manager is good for me and is good to me. This keeps me out of all the politics as I would like to stay out of it.

I know I cannot be the liked one for the rest of my life and at some point I know someone is going to find something to say about me, if they have not already.

But until that day, I can do all I can to make sure that I stay as ME and not let the lifestyle of a business singer get in the way. My focus is music and making people happy. And though it is going to be hard for me to say no to people who approach me, well, that’s what my manager is for. To do all the hard stuff.

I'm Back!

Ah and now that my internship is over, I find myself livig the ideal musicians life! Working from 7:30 pm – 3 am is just yet another normality in my life. Don’t turn the green eyed monster on me!

After just finishing the F1 show, I am indeed filled with excitement to write and compose new stuff with help from my fabulous musician friends from penang and KL.

The F1 show was a lot of fun with backing up from Wan Gigi, Adil Johan, Jimmy Tan, John John, and Daniel Veerapen! What a line up! The performance was cool. =) better yet was the audience! Whooho!

With more to come, I invite you guys to join me in my journey to hopefully.. that stage.

Hey there everyone. I don’t know if you know but I am not going to be in Penang (boo hoo) for 3 months so my Bagan gig is put on hold! BUT there is still amazing performances going on with Mary Carlos and Rozz of course. Sigh.. miss home.

Anyway! The reason I have not written in ages is because I have been busy with my internship in Malaysia Tatler magazine and it is fun. I am learning so much, but I do miss my regular singing stints.

Now that I am in Kuala Lumpur, I will be having some gigs here and there but mostly live performances for company events and such. Will be writing (songs) a lot here since all I do is work and .. sleep! So gotta use my time to write and work on the piano (thank you for those who are helping me out).

So here I am, 22 years old [just] and still in love with Roxy products. Hahaha yes I know this is a little side tracked. Hmm and quite random eh?

Yeah let's just be random for a bit.

I have been watching the re runs of American Idol and it is quite inspiring! Of course, it gets me thinking, which is usually dangerous. Too much thinking drives me a little wacko.

Going to be in Kuala Lumpur for the new years. Will be singing in Alexis on the 2nd of January [will elaborate about that more later] with Muzika Jazz Project once again and it is going to be good.

the future looks bright, yet grave. Not too sure in which direction things are going to take me.

Ocean of Fire!

It was highly anticipated, by me mostly of course, and I am sure by many other people. BUT what happened exceeded any expectations anyone had.

Fun? Yes. Exciting? Yes. Brilliant? Yes.

They not only knocked critics and haters off their seats, but blew everyone else away.

The launching of OOF's new album, "destination" is something a little different from their first one but still holding on to their original sound and signature moves. Creative, innovative and inspiring, this is an album I had been waiting to buy!

Yes, Ocean of Fire did me proud and I was lucky to have sung a song with them. I was lucky to be given the opportunity! =)

History in the making; this band will go far!

Music For Life

As I walked in for sound check, a familiar thrill of singing in a hall seeped into my bones. That chill and rush right to the heart can only be caused by pure satisfaction of being in there right here,right now.

Of course, the stage was a little intimidating, with 7 pianos and keyboards, 2 drum sets, and 4 or 5 amps at the least. And one solo microphone right in the middle of the stage; the microphone I would be using.

My band [Kelvyn, Jonathan, Kenny and Leonard] came to the hall and we ran through the 2 songs we would be performing! It sounded good, so I was confident. I had not been home all day! I had exams in the morning and that drained me 100% so this was an extra challenge for me.

The preparation for the show took a while. There were children performing as well so it was busy with kids and children were very excited with the shows. They all looked adorable in their little costumes and faces painted in color. My boys and I were afraid to trample over them. Well, not so much me. =)

I sang 2 songs with the children [mama mia, a first!!! and Thank you for the music] before a short break. Time flew during the break and I was chilling on the stage talking to the band. Then the MC put me on stand by and told me I was going to be starting soon. So I stood at the sides.

I felt like something was missing... I checked my lip gloss and realized I had not re applied some. Hmmm I thought that was all. Then it hit me that I was a little shorter then usual for a performance. I had been wearing slippers! I forgot to put on my heels!!! I ran through back stage and threw my slippers to a corner and slipped my heels on. Ran on stage just in time for the curtains to open!

There I stood. "Good evening ladies and gentlemen..." can't remember much of what I said. The lights were in my eyes, the camera's were flashing and the crowd was clapping. Through my nerves, the smile crept. And I was where I belong.

The band started with the chords for "A Change is Gonna Come" followed by "I Want to Break Free". The crowd was fantastic!!!! I was happy and I hope I felt smiles on faces.

The night went on with shows by the seniors of the music school, Jammin Sensation. A band walled the WVC trio performed with Adil Johan and of course the highlight of the night, miss Denise Mininfield!!! My friends Ben Singh accompanied her on percussions and he did fabulously. He was nervous, but he pulled it off like a pro! =)

The night ended and we all mingled to discuss [more like chit-chat/gossip] about the nights events. It was great hanging out with fellow musicians and sharing their experiences. Hahahaha! Over all, I was just nervous about the exams I was going to have the next day.

On a side note, I love my band! =)

Ok so I know it has been ages since I last posted anything up here in my blog, but I have decided to be more active, [specially since I have been gigging a lot.] So this should be fun.

Yes it has been a WHILE SINCE I LAST UPDATED WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING HERE IN MY BLOG.

Here is what has been happening and I cannot wait to tell you about it.

For the last few months, I have been singing in KL very often and I have been having a lot of fun and I have been very privileged to have worked with so many good musicians from Penang and KL.

The last performance I had was somewhere new to me and with a group of new musicians from KL. I was asked to perform there a few months before the actual date so I didn’t really worry so much about that gig as much as the one that was “coming up” like my shows in No Black Tie and Bangkok Jazz.

Anyway, the gig in Alexis came faster then I rkealized and I have about a month or so to learn the new songs in Portuguese and Spanish and some new songs in English as well. At this time, I still didn’t know who the line up was. The band I was to be working known is The Jazz Muzika Project. I only knew the pianist, Ee Jeng, who had contacted me about the show. =)

Anyway, when I got to the studio where we were to have our first ever rehearsals, I met for the first time the bassist named Daniel Foong. The first time I had ever seen Daniel was in Penang, in G spot for the Farid Ali performance a few months ago [February to be exact] and already then and there I thought he was amazing! Well, anyway, you can imagine my excitement as when I saw that he was going to be my bassist.

So we proceeded to have a 3 piece rehearsals with just a pianist and bassist to get the songs checked out.

It was not long until the 2 other musicians arrived; Eddie Wen and [drum role] Arthur Kam. Eddie Wen is a well known trumpeter in KL and it was the first time I had ever met him. I had heard of hi but I had never been lucky to catch his performance before. As another lead instrument, it was nice to have a partner on the front lines!

But then of course you cannot forget who our little drummer boy is. Arthur Kam is well known as the Malaysian drumming prodigy who I had heard for the first time at the Penang Island Jazz Festival and also once in No Black Tie earlier this year. He is not only great but just so much fun to watch!

All in all, the band was really nice and so great to work with! They made me feel very comfortable and welcomed in a new environment. All in all, it was a great performance in Alexis and I hope to be invited back again soon!

Wawasan Open Universtiy will be havinga major Revolution concert and EVERYONE will be there!

Pop shuvit, 1300, Ocean of Fire, high society, Areca Music ensemble... And a whole lot of other stuff lined up.

BANGKOK JAZZ WAS FANTASTIC!

AJQ and I had a blast together, thought it was a picty we didn't get to hang out all that much and didn't get to practice as often as we would have liked, but we merged as musicians and had fun!

Adil JOhan has written some brand new songs which are fantastic! The debut of the song Tai Chi was a hit!

Thanks so much to all my friends and family who came, to everyone from Shell who managed to make it, and fellow music lovers for taking the time to check us out.

So don't miss out the next show in No Black Tie on the 5th and 6th of June!!

It is going to be fun!

BANGKOK JAZZ

So last week was insane with all the running around from one gig to the next! Tiring, physically, mentally and emotionally!

Then the one week of school was... all over the place but at least I got things done.

So anyway... UP NEXT!

Bangkok Jazz, 15th and 16th May! 10 pm [time still unsure]!!

It is going to be fun!!! Song(s) written by me and Adil Johan Quartet [hopefully] will tickle your fancy! My first time singing my own songs, take it easy on me!

I will be singing in G Spot this weekend and I am telling you, it is something you would not want to miss~

The band of which I am working with; spunk unit is the band that I first started with waaay back when in Bagan on my first ever audition! They fuse with me just right and so, working with them again is something I am looking forward to!

It's going to be HUGE!

Yes I have not updated my blog in 2 months!!!!! So so so sorry!

Anyway, just to inform you guys that I just finished a really big show in KL and I had a blast! I was the opening act for singers such as Kris Dayanti and Dato' siti Nurhaliza and met tons of wonderful people like Dee and many more. It was a whole new experience, but not something I am new to, as I had grown up watching my dad do this.

In the past two months, I have done a few weddings, a few birthdays and a few functions; raging from big shows to an audience of just 7 people, I had fun with all of them. I have met so many musicians and I am honored to be added to their facebook! Hehe!

Speaking of the necessity which is now facebook, do join the fan club which has been made for me by a friend of mine. All the updates of my performances will be up there as well as here [yes, I promise I will update this page more often! =)]

So for the month of May, I have been booked for a few private shows [mostly weddings] but the biggest highlight for this month so far is my debut in BANGKOK JAZZ, in Kuala Lumpur on the 15th and 16th of May.

So come on down and check out my performance with none other the Adil Johan Quartet! Yes, it is going to be a lot of fun!

More shows coming up soon, No Black Tie in June should also be checked out! I will also be making an appearence in G spot this weekend [1st and 2nd of May] so if you feel like chilling out somewhere, come on over!

On the 3rd of this month, I was singing in a private function in Mount Pleasure. What a way to kick off the month!

It was not an easy show. It was for a very tiny group, 8 people I would say.

Teh challenege of this show was that there was no sound systme available and it was just Daniel and myself singing and performing with nothing to amplify our sounds.

And so, this is where all the physical training get put into play. By the end of every song I was panting!

But it was an experience. The house was gorgeous and our host was really good to us. I would say this is my first really private function. =)

By the end of the night, I was so tired, I just wanted to go home and sleep. Got home, cleaned up and hit the sack!! =)

Bagan will soon be inviting in her [yes, I would like to think of this gorgeous house as a she] a new singer. Miss Maya Hanum will be gracing Bagan's walls with new songs and a fresh new voice that will lift you off your feet!

So here's the new time table for the time being

On the 10th of January, I was given the opportunity to perform with AJQ in KL and the only way I can describe this night is … mind blasting!

Having one night to practise, one day to get ready and half an hour to get dressed, it was a night that I have now set as a bench mark. It was a good show with a brilliant crowd and good good good music!

Christmas and New Years have come and gone with a mighty BANG; well, easier to just say that December came and went with a BANG with non stop shows and work and just getting things settled.

It was a non stop role with work and performances and traveling here and there and it was loads of fun!!!

Performing at the jazz festival was honestly my resolution for the year 2008 and being able to be in the presence of some of the best musicians in Malaysia and from other parts of the world put me on a natural high so strong I am still smiling like a goof. =)

No black tie was a treat. Performing there as a guest artist along with Adil Johan Quartet [AJQ] opened doors to many offers in KL so I owe him a big big thank you makan makan. KL friends came to support me and for that too I am also grateful.

The Penang Heritage Night was a rush as I had to run back to work after performing only 2 songs. But the crows was supportive and cheered me on.

The opening of Pacific mall which is now in Komtar happened on my birthday, so it was a rather cool way of starting my 21 year old journey; singing for the chief minister dan lain lain. Was pretty cool...

Christmas and New Years at Eclectic was fantastic. Spent with friends and family, it was all I could ask for. No hustle and bustle and jams and cover charge.. =) just loved ones.

So sorry for not writing anything here!

and I havent been able to update this page so I have missed out on some shout out's on what's been going on.

November 22, I performed with the Waseda Brass Band all the way from Japan. I recently learnt that they only have 4 performances a year and being their invited guest was a real honor. And it sure did feel like it. They were so professional and wonderful.. and so friendly.

The conductor was only 27... which is considered really young for a conductor. =)

the group was so fun and cool to be with and I missed the after party! And working with them was a breeze. they were really profesional, I felt like a little fish in a big pond.

Well, soon a bigger pond.... The Penang Island Jazz Festival...

Up and Comin

Ok so here's the latest happenings that will soon be happening!

16th November 08, Queensbay, 7:45 am : I will be singing here for the Penang Bridge Walk with the Apeks! Hehehe it should be fun. I'm so glad we are given this opportunity to sing in front of so many people and in front of Penang VIP's. =) Along with us will also be performances by ocean of fire and many more fun stuff to look forward to. On a side note, at 8:30 pm there's the Jazz festival countdown and G spot.
22nd November 08, Komtar Dome, 3:00 pm : This one is amazing. I will be singing with the Japanese philharmoic ochestra. Only 2 songs, but its an opportunity I am so blessed to be offered. Check it out if you wanna. Free entrance!!!

My other performances of course still stand in Bagan (04 - 2264 977) and Eclectic (04 - 8814 287).

And so the 8 month play is over... we went to KL to perform in Bangsar shopping centre and it all went pretty well. The best performance was Sunday afternoon and the crowd was good.

Only the show on the 2nd will interfere with my performance in Eclectic.. thought I wish it wouldn't. Its OK... soon things will be back to normalll!!! =)

The Jazz Festival is really something no one should miss out. It's like woodstock all over again.

This weekend, I'll be starting later in Eclectic.

The time for the band to start has been changed so many times! But this is only for this month.

This weekends, performances will start at 10:15 and end at midnight because the play ID is beginning and as you know, I will be acting in it =)

So this weekend performances are delayed and shortened and also the unplugged session which happen on Sundays will be canceled for the next 3 weeks... Sigh....

Also, next weekend, ID will be performing in KL so I will not be in Eclectic and will be replaced by Maya Hanum; new discovered talent. She's good! Check her out next weekend 24th and 25th at Eclectic.

Multitasking

Been so busy lately with everything, but coping rather well. =) It's to good doing something you love!

Not only have I been singing but I have been rehearsing for a play that will be showcased in Octobed in Actors Studio, Green Hall, Penang and also in Actors Studio, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.

For the Penang show, the dates are the 17th, 18th and 19th October.
For the KL show, the dates are the 24th, 25th and 26th October.

The play is about the lives of 5 people and all the drama that comes their way.

This Independence day make your way up town to the Little Penang Street Market!

There will be many live performances, food, clothing and thing-a-ma-jigs to purchase and enjoy.

Fingers crossed that it wont rain!

I will also be performing with The Frequency Band after they perform with the fabulous Rozz d' Diva. A couple of songs, but it'll be fun!

ALSO try out the Nasi Lemak that will be sold. Really.. for someone who doesn't eat much, I can have 3 servings.

Saturday morning was a big rush to get to KL in time for sound check which of course got delayed. A normality all musicians are use to, but wishfully thinking that it will some day change. =)

During sound check, or more to say before I started singing, a couple went up on stage and they were sooo good! Just a random statement. =)

Anyway, the band accompanying me, or more to say who invited me down was Adil Johan [sax], Hero[bass], Alex[drums] and Terrance[keyboard]. I just have to say how professional they were! I prefer having practises before performances of course, but certain circumstances forced it to be a last minute thing where by practise was actually during sound check.

Considering we only had an hour to practise, we did really well! First time meeting the band, they made me feel right at home.

The performance started really well. Only thing was that I was not dressed "enough" for the wedding. It was a very traditional wedding. I felt out of place but was re-assured that it would be OK. THANKFULLY!

The songs went good, especially the jazz ones that we weren't able to practise but went better then any of the other onces we did. The songs requested were nice too. Really hard to sing, but I had a good time doing them.

It was fantastic to work with them. I had a great time. =) And yet again! No pictures....

Saturday, 23 August 2008 was spent in a private function in Georgetown for the Penang Bar council. The preparation for this function has been going on for months and we were booked months ago.

Spunk unit [Leanord Selva, Sam, Jonathan Scully, Kelvyn Yeang and help from a friend, Kenny] and myself were to play for this show. 3 sets, each set to be 45 minutes long.

So the song requests were sent in, the sound check went rather ok, some payments were made and the hotel room was sufficient for 4 people at a time. Hehe!

We were ready to go at 8 : 30 pm and kicked the night off pretty well.

After 2 sets, we were given a one hour set to relax and mingle while comedy central went on full swing. We got the chance to get to know some of the marinated and some new lawyers and I even knew some! Whooho!

Third set was rocking and we were lost in a world of our own. =)

Ended the night in Bagan to celebrate with my band. Something like a celebration and a farewell to Sam [bass] who is leaving to England soon. =( Too bad no pictures were taken!
